During the days of slavery, Christmas was the most important holiday that slaves were granted permission to celebrate. Those who chose to participate in the yuletide processions, paraded down the main streets of their town dressed in elaborate costumes, accompanied by the sound of drums, bells and whistles.

Today, the Junkanoo Festival still takes place the day after Christmas, as it did so many years ago. Here at Junkanoo on the Beach, we celebrate everyday with the same energy and excitement that transformed a party into a legend....
